About Our Initiative
Empowering professional retired senior citizens to continue contributing to Uganda's development
Background
Elders have a lot to offer to communities because of their long years of experience despite many of them being retired from formal employment. Many of them are dismissed as a spent force yet they can still make a big contribution to society.
The biggest challenge to the effective deployment of these senior citizens are the labor laws as well as the poor attitude of the young working force that are not favorable, albeit for generally understandable reasons.
There exists a big reservoir of talents that is redundant among these older persons yet they are still very useful to our communities, especially the young people. This scenario has been aggravated by the lack of confidence and low self-esteem among these elders. The situation is further compounded by their scattered nature and lack of organization.
The country is losing these talented people to illnesses that are associated with despair and inactivity such as pressure, diabetes, and depression among others. On top of that, these senior citizens find themselves in dire economic situations further aggravating the situation.
The government of Uganda recognizes older persons as those who are above 60 years and above. The government recognizes older persons as a special interest group that needs special attention and support in order to enhance social functioning and be able to actively give back to society.
Our Vision
Vibrant, responsible, resourceful, cohesive, healthy, happy and prosperous professional retired senior citizens, providing weather beaten services to the community.
